Help wanted!

Some of you older folks might remember when signs such as this were a common site in the windows of area businesses. Now they seem to have been relegated to museum memorabilia. Did I say museum? Hmmm . . .

Here at the Westclox Museum we’re sort of hanging out our version of this sign. We want help, and we have positions available immediately!

Now, before you start beating down the door, I must tell you that the positions we are trying to fill are volunteer positions, and the “pay” is pure satisfaction and enjoyment. The museum has been growing in leaps and bounds since our official opening on February 7, 2015, and since we are a FREE museum, staffed by volunteers, we need more help.

The following positions are available:

  • Docent – Duties are to be present at the museum during open hours; greet visitors and help to guide them through the displays; be able and willing to answer questions about everything in the museum; assist persons wishing to do research, such as Tick Talk database and reference books and materials; must like interacting with people on a one-to-one basis; training will be provided

  • Scanning – duties include scanning documents (mostly Tick Talk magazines) into computer files for digital archives; times can be during museum open hours or on off days; hours are very flexible – when you are available; basic computer skills are helpful; training will be provided

  • Artifact Maintenance/Housekeeping –duties are basically helping to keep the museum and artifacts clean and neat; mostly dusting and cleaning fingerprints off of glass cases; hours are very flexible – when you are available; probably once per week or once every 2 weeks during the busy season, less in winter; training will be provided

If you would like to help us grow by volunteering for any or all of these positions, contact us via this site or stop in during any of the museum’s open hours. (M – W – F – 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Sat – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.)

By the way, there are no maximum age limitations, but we suggest nobody younger than teens.

We hope to see many smiling volunteer faces added to our volunteer staff very soon.

We’ll be looking for you,

“You never know what or who you might find in the Westclox Museum!”
